Book an intro call

Glossary

Call to action

A call to action is the specific thing an email asks the reader to do next: book a call, download a guide, reply with an answer, register for an event.

Definition

A call to action is the specific thing an email asks the reader to do next: book a call, download a guide, reply with an answer, register for an event. It is usually a button or a clear link.

The best emails ask for one thing. Several competing buttons split attention and lower the chance that any of them get clicked. A call to action is not a slogan and not a vague 'learn more'. It names the action and the reason, and it matches where the reader is. Someone who just subscribed is not ready for 'request a demo'.

A B2B example: a payroll company's nurture email ends with 'See the 90-day hiring checklist' rather than 'Click here'. The link goes straight to the checklist, with no extra form in the way.

Why it matters for B2B email

Every B2B email should move someone one step closer to a conversation, and the call to action is that step. If it is missing, buried or unclear, the email can be well written and still achieve nothing. Matching the ask to the reader's stage is what turns a good open into a real next step.
