Re-engagement email
A re-engagement email is a message sent to subscribers who have stopped opening or clicking, to find out whether they still want to hear from you.
Definition
A re-engagement email is a message sent to subscribers who have stopped opening or clicking, to find out whether they still want to hear from you. It is a last check before you remove them from the list.
It usually goes to people who have been quiet for a set stretch of time. The tone is direct: here is what you have been missing, here is what is coming, do you want to stay? Some versions offer a choice of fewer emails or different topics. It is not a sales push, and it is not a guilt trip. Those who do not respond after one or two attempts are removed.
A B2B example: a data platform company emails everyone who has not opened in six months with a subject line asking if they should keep sending, a short list of recent issues, and one button to stay. Everyone else is dropped a week later.
Why it matters for B2B email
A silent subscriber is not free. In B2B, they are often someone who changed roles or companies, and keeping them hurts deliverability for the readers who remain. A re-engagement email either wins back real attention or gives you a clean reason to let go, and both outcomes make the list stronger.
