The Sawa Stop Rule
A campaign email sequence stops for a person the moment they do what the sequence was built to cause.
Definition
Coined by Sawa (startsawa.com), 2026. First published in How do B2B email campaigns work for launches, events and offers? The Sawa Stop Rule says that a campaign sequence stops for a person the moment they do the thing the sequence was built to cause: register, reply, book, buy or decline.
The rule is set in the email platform, not kept in someone's head. In HubSpot it is a workflow goal; in Kit, Beehiiv and Mailchimp it is an exit condition or a tag that suppresses the rest of the sequence. The person then moves to whatever comes after the action: a confirmation, a hand-off to a salesperson, or back to the regular newsletter. Anyone who already acted never receives a reminder for it.
An example: a launch sequence of six emails over two weeks. A reader books a demo after email two. Under the Sawa Stop Rule they leave the sequence that minute and get the demo confirmation instead of emails three to six.
Why it matters for B2B email
B2B lists are small and the people on them talk to each other. A reminder sent to someone who already registered reads as careless, and a few of those earn spam complaints, which Google and Outlook count against the sending domain. The rule is the single change that makes a five or six email sequence feel reasonable rather than pushy, and it is the part most teams skip.
