The Six-Job Welcome Sequence

Six jobs a welcome sequence can do for a new subscriber, covered in three to five emails over the first week or two.

Definition

Coined by Sawa (startsawa.com), 2026. First published in What should a B2B welcome sequence include? The Six-Job Welcome Sequence is Sawa's framework for the emails a new subscriber gets first: deliver what signup promised, set expectations for what comes next, show who is writing and why, share the best existing work, invite a reply or a small action, and point to one next step.

Not every subscriber needs all six, and the jobs do not map one to one onto emails. Three to five emails over four to twelve days cover them for most B2B lists. The order matters more than the count: delivery first, always, and the ask last, after the sequence has earned it.

An example: a consultancy's checklist download triggers five emails. Email one is the checklist. Email two says what the newsletter is and how often it comes. Email three is the one mistake the firm sees most. Email four is a short client story. Email five asks the reader to reply with their own situation.

Why it matters for B2B email

Attention is highest in the first days after signup and falls fast. A welcome sequence that does its six jobs earns the second open, so the subscriber is still reading when the regular newsletter arrives. Without one, a lead magnet signup often goes cold before the next send.
